Christ Was Born

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God, equal with God the Father in eternity, power, and glory. He became human just like us, with a human mother, Mary, when he was born in a miraculous way without a human father in Bethlehem. The Bible records the events of his life and ministry primarily in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Christ Has Died

We believe that humans are naturally sinful and need a Savior. King David famously said, "Surely I was sinful from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me." (Psalm 51:5) "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) Even without God's Word, the corruption and evil of the human heart is obvious. God's Word is very blunt about the punishment that sin deserves."The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23) We believe that there is nothing we can do to change God's judgment against us. We cannot do enough good to earn our own salvation or to make up for our own guilt. God's Word speaks clearly: "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin." (Romans 3:20)
Even though we don't deserve it, God loves us. He loves us so much that he sent Jesus to die in our place. He paid the price we owed. He took the punishment we deserved. As Isaiah puts it, "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:4-6) The sacrificial and substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross is central to our faith. "He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." (1 John 2:2)

Christ Has Risen

We believe that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead three days after his death on the cross. We believe that this is an historical fact, not myth, legend, or even simply a spiritual resurrection. Jesus truly rose. This is the most vital part of our faith, and our main source of comfort, peace, joy, and motivation. The Apostle Paul even said that "if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith." (1 Corinthians 15:14)

The fact that Jesus rose from the dead proves that the payment for sin has been completed. Jesus himself said so on the cross when he cried out "It is finished!" (John 19:30) just before he died. With his sacrifice on the cross, Jesus paid for the sins of the entire world once for all.

Jesus' resurrection also gives us the comfort and confidence of knowing that all who believe in him as their Savior will rise to live with him forever in heaven. The Apostle Paul writes, "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man,the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him" (1 Corinthians 15:21,22) Jesus himself promises this: "“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die." (John 11:25)

Christ Will Come Again

We believe that Jesus will return on the last day to judge the world. After his resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven. Immediately after he ascended, angels told the disciples, "This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

We believe that we can't predict when Jesus will return. "“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (Matthew 24:36)

While we wait for Jesus to return, he has given us a task, often called the Great Commission, to share the good news of salvation by faith in him with our friends, neighbors, families, and world. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19,20) Our congregation exists for the purpose of proclaiming the message of free and full forgiveness and salvation in Christ Jesus alone, to strengthen one another and grow together, and to serve not just our own members, but the members of our community and world at large with the gospel.
